Young moms are in the spotlight

On the 25th January in Donetsk press club has taken place meeting devoted to problem of homeless young orphans, who become parents. Workers of social oriented NGOs and representatives of state social services discussed this problems and tried to find the way out of the situation.

More than the half of the internat leavers have no place to live. This fact is more impressive, when we look at the number of orphans in Ukraine. Only in Donetsk region live about 13 thousand children, who have no family care. Partially this problem is solved with the help of vocational schools, which have student’s hostels. But this is rather not the solution, but transfering of the problem. And it becomes really burning, when young orphans become parents. There are no hostels for families and the number of social centers for mothers and babies is very restricted. In Donetsk region such social centre is not opened yet.

Last time in children rights protection center of “M.ART.IN-club” there are many requests from pregnant young girls, who are orphans and decided to give birth. This decision has grave consequences. Expectant mothers have to choose: to loose their room in hostel (because it is forbidden to live there with babies) and go with the newborn on the street, or to bring the baby to orphanage and turn back to study. The majority of them loose their chance to preserve their families and become real mothers for their children. Orphans give birth to orphans…

This problem “M.ART.IN-club” can not solve alone, but it is possible if governmental and alternative social services will combine their efforts. ........
